UNITS Atlanta is ready for Spring Cleaning and wants to make
easy as pie this year by breaking it down. The kitchen is the best place to start since it will help us when cleaning other rooms and it's one of the most used rooms in the house. So roll up those sleeves and lets start cleaning!
Let's grab our supplies
Very important to take the time and do this now before beginning so as not to get distracted and wonder away from the kitchen.
Supply List
- Long handled dust mop
- Step-ladder
- Cleaning cloths
- Small bucket with handle
- Sponges
- Vacuum with attachments
- All-purpose cleanser or mild kitchen cleanser
- Oven Cleaner
- Shelf or cabinet liner and drawer dividers or trays
- Trash can
- Basket for stuff that doesn't belong in the kitchen.
- Container for items that you do not use and will sell or donate.
- Dish soap.
- Other cleaners you normally use.
- Dishrag
- Scrubber for stuck on food.
- Broom
- Mop
2. Do "The Quick Kitchen Cleanup".
This
will clear out the clutter and dirty dishes, and give you room to do
the actual spring clean up. Don't worry about cleaning the floors in the
15 minute clean up. We will do this later.
- Run a sink of hot, soapy water.
- Scrape off any leftovers on dirty dishes into the trash or garbage disposal.
- Place dishes that need to soak into the water.
- While the dishes are soaking, go through the kitchen clearing out trash from your floor, counter tops, cupboards, etc. (focus only on removing trash)
- Gather all the items that do not belong in the kitchen and place into a basket. (Do not stop working on the kitchen to take these items to their homes.)
- Put kitchen items in their proper places.
- Load the dishwasher or wash by hand.
- Wash down your counter tops, appliances, and sink.
3. Dust down the ceiling and corners of all walls.
4. Dust and clean all art and photographs along the wall.
5. Dust and clean the ceiling fan or chandelier.
6. Take down draperies, curtains, and blinds to wash or have them cleaned. (according to the manufacturer's directions.)
7. Apply oven cleaner to the oven and then clean the refrigerator.
8. While the oven cleaner works, begin sorting through the freezer and refrigerator. (Don't forget to go back and clean the oven when you are finished with the freezer and refrigerator.)
9. Take the knobs, burners, burner covers, and spill catchers off of the stove and clean them and the stove and hood. (Don't forget to replace knobs, burners, burner covers and spill catchers when done cleaning the stove and hood.)
10. Wipe down and clean the toaster, blender, and other small appliances.
11. Clean out & organize kitchen cabinets. (Toss broken items. Place items you don't use in the container to sell or donate to charity. )
12. While the dishwasher is empty run it through a cycle and clean out traps.
13. Wash down the counter tops.
14. Wipe down and clean out any drawers.
15. Wash down the sink.
16. Take out the trash
17. Return items in basket to their designated rooms.
18. Place sell or donation items in designated area for collection. (If you have rented a UNITS Atlanta portable storage container, this is a great place to store these items until you have gathered them from all through the house.)
19. Sweep and mop the floors.
Your kitchen should now be clean as a whistle!
